Looking at getting one of these around end of March April time. When I'll be 21 so insurance will be good. Anyone know much about them? Looking at getting an 02/03 plate one. Seen them go for between 2.5-3k (how much I'll be looking to spend) is there many worries on these engines when they do over 100oddK? Any major things to look out for common problems? Cheers guys

They are awesome, bullet proof, good fun and loud...
Down sides are shite on fuel, expensive to lower and bumpers fade

I had an FN2 (so pretty much the same engine) and in my year owning one I never had a hiccup, and I didn't read about a SINGLE engine failure on any of the forums I posted on at the time.
Compared to the Subaru forums, it's quite a difference
Fuel consumption I felt was fine in my FN2 - but of course it's all relative. I got 27mpg with my usual combo of spirited driving and 50mph commute traffic, whenever my missus drove it she got mid 30's out of it.

Well 30mpg is what I get out of my corsa so won't notice like a massive difference unless I just vtec everywhere.

Its a 2L car with 197bhp ffs not a golf tdi. Mpg shouldnt be considered if youre looking at hot hatches.

Good looking cars and handle very well but greedy fuckers on fuel, the lack of torque is a pain in the ass as well if your used to having a F/I car.
Watch out for crunching gearboxes especially 2nd and knocking/creaking steering racks. Both expensive fixes.

They have as much torque as any other 2.0 N/A car though so certainly don't lack in that department. Easy enough to drive in built up area's without needing to use Vtec.
MPG is just the same as any other 200bhp 2.0 N/A car. Will easily see 30mpg driving sensibly.
I suspect the people who think they are heavy on fuel for what they are, are the 1s who feel the need to hit vtec everywhere.

If you don't hit vtec then IMO the car is shit. My old xe Corsa had more pull than it. You'll need to be driving like miss daisy everywhere to get upto 30mpg.

The vtec thing is a point, the car really is pathetic without it.
Saying you can do 30mpg by avoiding vtec is like saying you can lose weight with a McDonalds Big Tasty meal if you don't eat it.

Well you said small turbos that go well which can only be the likes of a corsa vxr for example. Can a corsa vxr go well without giving it boost? No.
Dont need to rape ep3s either.

Im going to go on a limb and say any 1.4 tfsi engined car will be better on fuel than a ctr...
Bit unfair maybe?
Any 1.8t engined car will also be better on fuel
